Extraordinary Animal shelter
Where every animal matters
Since 1970 and Still going…
Established in 1970 in Swakopmund, we have been serving our community for decades and with public support, we will continue to do so. The Tierschutzverein Swakopmund has built and maintained a solid reputation through willing volunteers who serve on the committee and have trustworthy staff to run the kennels. Those of you who visit us know that our animals are happy and cared for and that we ensure that our kennels are well maintained and clean in order for our animals to have a happy home while they wait patiently to be adopted.
Our first Swakopmund Tierschutzverein Chairman, Leo Bierberg laid the first foundation stone today, 50 years ago on October 7, 1970.
With each year passing, the number of lost, abandoned and surrendered dogs and cats grows. In Swakop alone, they amount to nearly 700 per year. Can you imagine if there was no Animal Rescue Shelter in Swakopmund to help these poor souls? This year especially has been very hard on our town and due to severe effect Corona had on the economy, more and more people turned to us for help, forced to surrender their pets.
Mission
Our mission is to provide a safe, well-maintained sanctuary for domestic cats and dogs in our care whilst waiting to be re-homed. They are safely and lovingly accommodated at our animal shelter where they also receive veterinary care when needed until they can be re-homed to qualifying persons.
Make difference – Donate
DONATE – We rely on support from people like you to create sustainable change in the Swakopmund area. Your gift has the ability to help thousands of people at once, so start making a difference in the world today. Every donation makes a huge difference to the cats and dogs currently at our shelter and those countless others who still need rescuing.
Make a difference – Volunteer
If you are not able to adopt one of our rescued cats or dogs but have some spare time, patience, and love for animals, we’d still like to hear from YOU.
Your help in walking dogs or playing with cats living at our animal shelter are most welcome. Any person over 14 years of age can support us this way (minors require written consent from parents). There is nothing more comforting to the soul than smooching or grooming our cats and dogs. They adore our volunteers and are extremely appreciative of every little bit of attention. If you are determined to lend a helping hand but don’t know how to go about it, please contact us. Our four-legged friends will be forever thankful.
